Anyone making resolutions???

I was thinking about this last night and contemplating making a resolution that I have been wanting to make for a long, long time. I am going to give it my best shot and will try to give up drinking soda. I have a diet Coke habit of 4, 5, sometimes 6 or more cans a day. Not only is this bad for me, but it's also really, really expensive! I am thinking it will be best if I try to ween myself off of it and only have it as a special treat occasionally. Has anyone else done this? And do you have any advice on how to achieve success? Thanks!

I just resolved to stop online shopping. As for Diet Coke, I just always think about how that stuff can remove rust on cars. Do I really want that in my body?

Or, you could just reduce consumption to one-a-day. But cold turkey is probably better. Maybe substitute green tea so you still get a little flavor and caffeine?

I had to give up diet coke 4 years ago as artifical sweeteners were causing a health problem for me. It was hard and I really had to fight the cravings.. but it was worth it... I went from a litre or so a day to nothing!!

I've entirely given up soda... I gradually switched to lemonade or green tea at restaurants, and we only buy water, milk and fruit juice at home.

Could you buy a 6 pack of diet coke once a week, and only put 1 can in the fridge per day? The rest you could shove in some hard to reach place so you're less tempted to drink more?

I want my boyfriend to give up soda! Each time we go out to eat, I feel like it's another $2 down the drain (or his throat). You should start paying for all of your sodas with cash and give yourself the option each time to put the money in a 'fun' fund or spend it on the soda... see if that makes any changes!

I wouldn't say I gave up soda but I rarely drink it. Its just too expensive and Moneyapolis is right, it CAN remove rust on cars!

I used to drink dr pepper a lot. I now have a can in my cabinet that has been there for several months--it's now a treat that I drink a few times a year instead of almost every day.

first i just regulated it to one tiny mini-bottle (8 oz) a day. then i went to weekend-drinking only. then I decided to drink water after every sip, mainly because I didn't want my teeth to be discolored (again reiterating the rust and corrosion that that stuff is capable of!). eventually my cravings subsided and i now only drink water, milk, tea, and pure fruit juice (occasionally).

it helps that sodas are full of nasty chemicals, caffeine, and are horrible for you. I also read an article where a lady's esophagus and stomach was eaten away because she drank coke constantly.

good luck! if i can do it, you can too. I was totally addicted!

I do make resolutions, but they rarely (never?) occur on January 1. I think resolutions are best left to the time when inspiration occurs. For example, I resolved to try to ride my bicycle to work all winter long (here in New Hampshire)...but that resolution happened back in October.

I'm trying to cut back on sodas too... my drugs of choice are diet Pepsi or Coke Zero... so far I haven't had since Sunday. I only drank 1 or 2/day, but it all added up...

Good luck!!

I've made a bunch of resolutions, personal and financial ones. I was never a huge pop drinker, but when I learned about the damage it can do to your teeth it made me like it even less! I like to take care of my teeth haha. Good luck with your resolution!!!
